Berkley team up with the Prevention Foundation to provide local school with essential safety material.

Berkley Estate & Letting Agents have teamed up with the Prevention Foundation, a national resource dedicated to arming youngsters with the information they need to live happy, healthy and successful lives.

Berkley have sponsored local Hall Orchard CE primary school to receive safety resource booklets and educational advice. The booklets cover a range of topics including road safety, fire safety, bullying, and online safety. Berkley’s Barrow upon Soar branch manager Kim Knight explained:

“We believe it is crucial that children have a good understanding of various safety measures from a young age. Therefore, we wanted to help the community in helping to provide this education to children in our local area.”

About the Prevention Foundation

Created in 2016, the foundations members work within communities distributing a wealth of safety information on topics affecting disadvantaged areas of the UK including knife crime, bullying and drugs and alcohol.

“Our aim is to reduce potential harm to young and vulnerable members of society. Our range of awareness projects support school personnel, Social and Health Education (PSHE) lessons, partnerships with local authorities and national awareness campaigns, all in a bid to boost the self-esteem and emotional wellbeing of the young.”

The Prevention Foundation Booklets

The booklets provided to the school covers a range of topics which are crucial to the safety and wellbeing of local children. Furthermore, it provides accessible information and statistics on safety. It even includes activity ideas and quizzes so children can learn crucial safety advice in a fun and engaging way.

The topics covered throughout the booklet are:

– Road Safety.

The booklet provides statistics on the main causes of accidents on the road for children. In addition, it provides tips on how to stay safe as a pedestrian using the Green Cross Code. Furthermore, the booklet gives tips for children cycling and ways in which they can help to prevent injury whilst cycling.  

– Fire Safety.

It gives advice on how to prevent injury from fire, and also it explains what fire safety means. Also, the booklet advises on how to plan your escape if caught in a fire. As well as tips and easy to remember sayings such as “Stay Low and Go!”.

– Bullying.

The booklet explains what bullying is, what to do if bullies have taken your friends away and gives advice on how to spot someone who might be being bullied. It also includes advice on how to make new friends.

– Cyberbullying.

The booklet gives advice on what to do if you are being cyber bullied, as well as providing a description of many different types of cyberbullying. For example, harassment, denigration, flaming, impersonation, outing and trickery, cyber stalking and exclusion.  

– Online safety.

In addition, this includes threatening behavior, blackmail, grooming and inappropriate Images. It discusses what each of these aspects mean, how to identify them and the laws on what you can and can’t do online.
